Safeguarding Principles:
The Catholic Church believes that every person has a value and dignity which derives directly from their creation in the image and likeness of God. This implies a duty to value all people and therefore to protect them from harm.
Children and people at risk were welcome and safe in the company of Jesus and should also be welcome and safe in his Church. The safeguarding of children and adults is an integral part of the life and ministry of the Church and flows from the Gospel.
The Safeguarding Programme requires that all employees and volunteers who in their respective roles as representatives of the Catholic Church and our parish, deal or come into contact with children and vulnerable adults, need to be aware of safeguarding best practises and implement these when dealing with children and vulnerable adults. Formation and training in Safeguarding is therefore vital.
Safeguarding Training is a policy requirement of the Catholic Diocese of Auckland and the National office for Professional Standards (NOPS) for those volunteers working with children, youth and vulnerable adults.
