/\Pastoral Plan

"Fit for Mission"

St Francis Xavier Parish launched Fit for Mission Sunday 1st June 2014 on the celebration of the Ascension of the Lord. At homily time the priests explained that Fit for Mission is the Pastoral Plan for Catholics of Auckland Diocese including Northland for the next five years. There was an important symbolism in that the plan was given to families and individuals as part of the homliy. Everyone is encouraged to act.

On the following Sunday Sr Sian Owen rsj came from Auckland to lead workshops over three Sundays about Exploring and Sharing Faith. The third workshop had the participants discussing and putting on paper ways groups and individuals might put into action Fit for Mission. Sr Sian returned for two Sundays in June 2015 to build on the previous work. The key emphasis of the Pastoral Plan Fit for Mission is about reaching out. At the end of every Mass the priest prays a blessing over the people and then sends them out. One of the statements he uses is "Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord" and the people say "Thanks be to God".

A Leader Committee made up of members of our Parish family met for the first time in August 2014. Their job was to determe how everyone, individuals, families and groups, might put the plan into practice. Applying Fit for Mission to Whangarei, they were to clearly define what direction it leads the Parish and then identify what people could do to make progress. At their final meeting in May 2015 the Leader Group completed their deliberations directing facilitator Peter Monahan to pass their findings to members of Parish Council.

Parish Council are studying, reflecting on and discussing the material recieved. What is clear to all is that they are engaged in a work of the Holy Spirit!

As well as the above, people report they have read and prayed about the Fit for Mission document. Pray that they and all of us know the gracious power of God made known in Christ Jesus as we put the plan into action.
